7,000 mm turning diameter, 25,000 mm workpiece length and more than 350 t workpiece weight: The largest lathe in the world, located at our customer’s plant in America, has efficiently machined turbine rotors for power plants for many years.
Our customer chose a horizontal turning lathe from WaldrichSiegen since 2009. The machines of the ProfiTurn H series are characterized by high drive power and torques, as well as fully hydrostatic guideways. The ProfiTurn H offers precise machining of turbine rotors that is second to none.
But the story of the largest lathe in the world is not over yet. The company has planned to modernize and therefore relocateed the machine from America to France, in order to expand manufacturing capacities at its new location and to machine workpieces that could not previously be processed. The project requirements are as big as the machine.
In addition to the installation of the machine in France, an upgrade of the machine control, an adaptation of the electrical component to the European power grid and to the local conditions are planned. The new control features the latest technology and a bigger control panel, which significantly increases the machine's performance and user-friendliness.
WaldrichSiegen is working closely with the customer and no matter how complex the circumstances are – the experts from WaldrichSiegen will find a solution.
